Screen Use Policy

First Step Daycare Center cares about the health and well being of the children in our care. First Step Daycare does not rely on television, movies or computers to fill space in our daily schedules. First Step Daycare strives to build curriculum and daily routines that promote physically active play, cognitive and social development. Similar devices may be used for instructional or physical activity purposes for a maximum of 30 minutes per week.

 

First Step Daycare will ensure that:

• Screen time is limited to 30mins per day. 

• Children under the age of two or children who attend the center for three or less hours will not be offered screen time. 

• Alternatively no more than 150 minutes of screen time will be accumulated  through the week in childcare. Less is better. 

• This includes computers, movies, video games, tablets, smart phones, active video games, etc.

• Video games: If screen time includes video games, physically active games are  considered more desirable than sedentary games. Active video games do not replace physical activity time.

• All attempts should be made to avoid exposing children to marketing and advertising.
